Our vision is to give back to our community in a caring, empathetic and professional manner that embraces the quote from Benjamin Franklin: "Show me your cemeteries and I will tell you what kind of people you have."
Through the good work of our commissioners, volunteers and trustees, along with your support, we can continue to make that happen. We firmly believe in our motto: "Excellence Through Teamwork".
Our team is composed of dedicated commissioners with diverse backgrounds and skill sets. We truly value the time and effort forth by our commissioners, our volunteers and the deputies and trustees of the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.
The Cemetery Commission holds regular pubic meetings to conduct business and to provide an opportunity for public input. Please join us at our next meeting, scheduled for 10:30AM Saturday, March 16, 2024 at the Dog River Public Library meeting room, located at 6100 GA-5 in Douglasville, Georgia.
As managing Co-Chairman, Commissioner Richard Jones, chairs public meetings, oversees the commission's planning and zoning impact reports, recruiting, social media, commission compliance with state and local laws, and our commission officers report to him. Commissioner Jones is a former Deputy Sheriff and a former Fraud Investigator. He has been conducting liability and accident investigations since the 1990's. He has been with the cemetery commission since 2020.
Commissioner John McFall has been with the cemetery commission since 2011. He is our longest-serving commissioner, and has an unparalleled knowledge the our 60+ cemeteries that our commission oversees. He is our liaison with the Douglas County Sheriff's office, oversees the weekly trustee cemetery clean-out days, oversees the care and maintenance of the commission's equipment and single-handedly created our official maps, which show the locations of the cemeteries that we oversee. He also serves as our commission historian. Commissioner McFall is a retired Civil Engineer and map maker.
Commissioner Charles Wynn has been with the cemetery commission since 2023. He oversees the commissioner workdays, which consist of our cemetery commissioners conducting cemetery clean-outs without assistance from the sheriff's office trustees. Commissioner workdays allow the commissioners to have a hands-on approach to maintaining the cemeteries. Commissioner Wynn is a retired United States Army major and comes to us with a wealth of leadership experience.
Commissioner Zivon Ais has been with the cemetery commission since 2023. He oversees the commission's documents such as forms to be filed with other government agencies along with the agenda and minutes of our commission's public meetings. Commissioner Ais is a successful realtor in the Atlanta area and operates his own cleaning business.
Commissioner Noah Jeffcoat has been with the cemetery commission since 2023. He oversees our commission budget, conducts regular inventories of commission equipment, makes recommendations regarding spending and coordinates with county officials on budgetary matters. Commissioner Jeffcoat has been with the cemetery commission since 2023. He is also a master automotive technician for General Motors.
As we continue to build and update our web site, we will be adding the photos and brief biographies of the rest of our cemetery commissioners. Stay tuned.

We lost sandy in 2022.

We provide a range of services including the preservation and care of over 60 abandoned cemeteries in the unincorporated portion of Douglas County.
Our esteemed Board of Commissioners usually grants a small budget for our good work. Our funding from the county has varied in recent years due to the pandemic and other budgetary issues, so it ranges from year to year. Our Board of Commissioners is still working out the details of our 2024 commission budget and we anticipate knowing more by June 2024. Our bylaws also allow for us to conduct fundraising activities.
You must be a citizen of Douglas County, pass a criminal background check and be willing to volunteer your time and services to the eternal citizens of Douglas County. Cemetery Commissioners must be available for meetings, events and cemetery clean-out days, which typically take place on Saturdays.
